Eldkvarn: one of the best bands Sweden has
I almost stayed at home due to the bad weather and the “complications” after the party at Victor’s Friday night. But a summer in Stockholm is not complete without a Eldkvarn-concert at Tantogården, and this year I am very happy I went. It was one of the best concerts I have been to with Eldkvarn and when having a pizza with Magnus and Jenny right before the concert I said that I was hoping that they would play “Man över bord”, “Kungarna från Broadway” and “Nånting måste gå sönder”. And they played all three of them, but also “Ta min hand”, “3:ans spårvagn” and a lot of other good stuff so the set-list was about perfect. And the band is just so amazingly tight. I really think Eldkvarn deserves a much bigger audience so I recommend anyone who likes rock-music to buy their latest album “Atlantis”. If you are in doubt, read what Po Tidholm thinks.
One thing that was great yesterday was that the average-age became lower when I entered Tantogården (just like if my mum would have gone to Björkvik…). But when I watched all these middle-aged people living around Södermalm enjoying the music I could not help thinking about our general election 2006. Eldkvarn played the song “Alice” that mentions a May-day parade (“Jag såg Första maj tåg med vajande fanor”) and I bet a large majority of the people in the audience voted to the left of center in 2002 (and I know Eldkvarn voted for the Social democratic party, they played at our election party then and I asked them). But what about next time? When will we get our message across? Do people know that the Swedish Tories want to take away 50 000 kronor from a newly born child (through shorter parental leave), that they will cut foreign aid and lower all replacement levels in the welfare systems in order to pay for huge tax cuts? One year to go, I am sure we can win this if we just want to, and it is not dark yet, but if nothing happens, it’s getting there...

Hi Eric,
Happened to read your blog and I saw this text about politics and a band. Our youth organisation SNK just had a great summer campaign, which brought over 600 new members. They carried it with our popular presidents face in their t-shirts. At some festival, whole band wore these shirts, which lead to a mass interest. Young people are interested, they just have to be contacted the right way.
You have a great blog.
Hälsningar,
Arto, SONK
Arto: Saw the t-shirts during the ECOSY-campaign in Portugal, really cool, we should do something like it (actually Olof Palme t-shirts can be bought in Stockholm now).
