The wife against the mayor…

I only had ten days of vacation last summer and in Europe folks, that is nothing. So on the 26th of October I am clocking out for 12 wonderful days in Argentina, where one of my best friends (Lukas) is getting married.

Yesterday I spoke on the phone with one of my friends who I will meet up with in Buenos Aires. We were both excited about the presidential election in Argentina on the 28th of October (yes, I will be in Argentina when an election is held and it is actually a coincidence). So, we talked about whether Christina Kirchner - the wife of the current president Néstor Kirchner - will take her husband’s job. We also talked about the new Mayor of Buenos Aires, Mauricio Macri, who is now the de facto leader of the opposition.

My friend, who is American, concluded that we were talking about ”the wife of the president and the mayor of the biggest city” and that our conversation ”sounded like a conversation about an election in a Banana Republic.”

Then my friend realized that we could as well be talking about a forthcoming presidential race in the US. The wife of the president (Hillary Clinton ) versus the former mayor of the biggest city (Rudy Giuliani)… Soon in a huuuge Banana Republic and the outcome will affect us all.
